A dreams of a house full of home-grown beauty.
I spend many an idle moment dreaming up rooms for the house I will one day own, full of wonderful colours, original art, wonderful pieces of furniture and lots of lovely knick-knacks.
As a big fan of home-grown design, I plan to source as much as I possibly can from right here in the UK. These are some of the things that have found their way onto my wish list.
For many of us, too young to properly remember the first incarnation of G Plan, the brand remains shrouded in an almost holy mystery. Original pieces are hard to come by, but happily the company was revived a few years ago and now produce pieces inspired by the original designs, all made here in the UK. Nostalgic, flawless, iconic design.
I was lucky enough to decorate my own room this year and source the furniture for it. Most of it we found second-hand in junk and vintage shops, which was an adventure in itself! (Well worth the time, if you're thinking about it.)The bed was a bit more of a challenge, needing to fit into a very specific place. The Bed Workshop in Bristol stepped up to plate and delivered a beautiful bed, to my exact specifications, made right here in this fair city. I would recommend them to anyone.
Another bit of shameless nostalgia here, White Rabbit England make those wonderful toadstool and rabbit lamps we all had when we were young (or at least knew someone who did!) Beautiful. Kitsch. Made in England. What more could you want. Oh, they also make lots of lovely other things too.
The brand's eponymous founder, Clare, has created an online haven for absolutely delightful British designed and made homewares. From cushions to cups, this is a little treasure trove of very special pieces, perfect for gifting and perfect for keeping!
Good ol' John Lewis believe in Great British manufacturing, and stock loads of products from loads of home-spun brands across their departments. Perfect for buying into a great heritage brand or two.
Don't tell me you're not imaging your ideal home right now!
